Gaining a Voice's Aims

The GAINING A VOICE aims to teach basic media relations skills to community groups. This series will show members of community groups how to: 
 

• understand the different news mediums;
•  target the message for a specific audience and a specific medium;
•  identify and contact specific journalists who may be sympathetic to your organization; 
• organize a media campaign;
• make issues into news stories;
• produce and use news releases;
•  develop strategies for contacting media professionals;
•  present a more accurate and balanced representation of contentious issues;
•  limit media bias;
• enhance media exposure;
• utilize community programs;
• organize press conferences;
• handle interviews;
• do damage control if the message becomes distorted in the media.
